I signed up for something

I made a call this week I've been circling for a while. I'm doing Hyrox in December.

Registration isn't even open yet. Nothing's paid. I just decided, out loud, and reworked my whole program around it so it's real to me now.

And here's the honest part. I'm a little scared of it. When our second was born I dropped my volume down to maintenance, just keeping the base, and that got me through the tired months. It just didn't pull me anywhere.

That's the thing I keep forgetting and relearning. Purpose was always the thing that pulled me forward. The tired never did.

Last November I was 199 pounds. I started running to get my weight and my cholesterol in line. By January I was down to 185. This morning the scale said 170, and my body feels good, especially on the runs. But none of that happened because I felt like it. It happened because I had a reason with a date attached.

A date does something maintenance can't. At 9 at night with nothing left, "I should train" loses every time. "I've got a race in December" wins more than I'd admit.

So this week: put a date on one thing. A race, a signup, a Saturday you told a kid you'd take them somewhere. Something you'd actually have to explain to yourself if you skipped it.

What's the one thing you'd sign up for if you weren't scared you'd be too tired to do it? Hit reply. I read every single one.

It all counts.
