I'm tired too

An unmade bed in a dark room, lit only by a small lamp on the nightstand.

It’s 9pm. Both kids are finally down, the house has gone quiet, and the last thing I want to do is anything.

I’ll say the true thing up front: I’m tired too. Most weeks I’m running on less sleep than I’d tell my doctor. This isn’t a guy who cracked it talking down to a guy who hasn’t. It’s just me, in it with you.

Here’s the only thing that’s held up for me, and it has nothing to do with motivation. I do the smallest possible thing before my brain gets a vote. Ten pushups on the kitchen floor. A walk to the end of the street and back. Not a workout. Just small enough that I can’t talk myself out of it.

Waiting until I feel like it never worked, because the energy was never going to show up first. Some nights it turns up a few minutes in. Some nights it doesn’t, and I did the thing anyway, and that one counts just as much.

So this week: one small thing you won’t lie to yourself about. That’s the whole thing.

What’s the one you keep putting off? Email me: tony@thewholedad.com. I read every single one.

It all counts.
